"Blue Marble"

I wanted to learn more about The Overview Effect so I decided to go back to the beginning and I found what I was looking for in the world premier of Overview. It’s a great film short and does a marvelous job of explaining this important phenomena.

This is the definitive film that explains everything and is the video that was re-shared on Google+ that made me want to start this website.

This event took place on the 40th anniversary of the "Blue Marble", one of the most famous pictures of Earth, which was taken by the crew of the Apollo 17 spacecraft on December 7, 1972.

Re-visiting this, I felt my mind expanding to encompass this new awareness. I got very excited. This is a MUST SEE experience for the images it offers from space and the astronaut's stories of what it was like and what The Overview Effect means to them.

When I first watched this documentary the importance of it was evident, not just to me but to us all as human beings. It’s becoming clear that although not so new, The Overview Effect has quickly become more than a trend, and I hope it continues and gathers even more momentum.

To the scientific community The Overview Effect is of great importance in shaping our future on this Earth and in space. We need to join them by giving a part of ourselves every day to help make this planet we live on a better place for every single life form.

I dare you to not be enlightened by Overview. This documentary runs for 1:29:06 and a panel discussion follows after the credits. If you give a damn about space or the quality of life for all, I urge you to take the time to watch it.

A perspective-changing event!
A panel discussion followed, with two NASA astronauts, Ronald J. Garan Jr. and Jeffrey A. Hoffman, discussing their experience with the filmmakers and with Douglas Trumbull (visual effects producer on films such as "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"). The event was moderated by Harvard Extension School instructor Frank White, author of the book that first looked at this phenomenon in 1987, "The Overview Effect,"

We are all in this together with no boundaries or limitations on Spaceship Earth save our own attitudes, weaknesses, prejudices, greed and selfishness. We are a flawed race of beings that can’t seem to see the proverbial nose on our own faces.

As soon as we let go of all boundaries and dare to let ourselves grow, only then will we have a society, one world order, for everyone and everything, that we can all be proud of.
